Equality for Women – Recipe for Disaster

Asking for equality between men and women in a society or a family is like asking for equality between Shane Warne and Ricky Ponting in a Cricket team. Both are Cricket players but their skill, strengths, weaknesses and hence responsibilities and authorities in the team are different. Ponting cannot turn around and ask for the same number of overs as Shane Warne and Shane Warne should not suddenly ask to be sent as one down batsman just because he is “Equal” to Ricky Ponting. He should also not demand the same powers in the team as Ponting, just because he is “equal”. Ponting is the captain of the team, his responsibility is greater, hence his authority is greater.

Similarly, Men and Women are diverse beings. They are physically, mentally, psychologically and emotionally different. They have different strengths and weaknesses. Hence they have different responsibilities in a family, society and a nation. If the Family is a team, then the Husband is the captain of the team. He has bigger responsibility hence the bigger authority.

Asking for Equality between Men and Women in the society and in a family is not only wrong but also potentially disastrous. This disaster can be easily seen in the western societies where the institution of family has been completely decimated because of this “Fitna” of Gender Equality.
